At the heart of this club lie the Elements:
ancient symbols in our collective memory, and therefore powerful images that are part of us and evoke vivid sensations, personal memories and instinctive desires…
In our minds, they immediately bring to mind specific colours, the materials that represent them, and inspiration for weaves, textures and patterns.
So we decided to bring these ideas together in four chapters, each dedicated to an Element, a specific yarn, a dedicated pattern and a small collection of colours inspired by them.
This first episode is devoted to WATER - Acqua
Linking water to summer seemed almost an obvious choice to us, given the sense of freshness and peace that a dip in the sea can bring on a sweltering day…
This is our ode
To the mesmerising colour of the sea, reflecting the clear sky and the sunlight
To the scent of a summer shower
To the sound of a stream in the woods
To the hypnotic calm of a lake in the evening
To children playing in the water
To the joy a cool drink brings on summer afternoons
For this instalment we teamed with Susanne Sommers who designed a wondrous shawl pattern where 3 different shades entwine in a fabric of waves and sprays.
The infusion we selected with the lovely guys from Giusmìn Tea Lab Milano is a celebration of fresh scents, a blend of green rooibos with jasmine and basil.
We then created 3 shades on Aestiva, evoking different characters that water can have: dark and stormy, crystal and bright, shadowy and iridescent

Collaborations for this Club:
We have always been huge fans of Susanne designs, and have made such astonishing pieces in the past in collaboration with her; in addition, she has a passion for Aestiva, so when we commenced this project we thought of her in the first place, knowing she would design a piece that couldn't have been other than perfect for our idea
Also the guys behind Giusmìn are a recurrent partner in our Club history, but you know that when you find a keen connoisseur to rely on, that's a true luck! They have a wild range of blends in their lab and it's been quite hard to choose one.
We recommend that all yarn is washed by hand. This ensures it’ll be beautiful for as long as possible and will wear well. When you’ve finished your project, dunk it in a sink of lukewarm water – with a no rinse wool wash if that takes your fancy, leave it to saturate for a while, then roll it up in a towel to squeeze out excess water and pin out flat to dry.
As with all textiles and all yarn, sometimes colour can come out. It can be caused by a difference in the water ph used to wash the item, detergents, or an over-saturation of dye that hasn’t quite finished rinsing out.
All of our hand dyed yarn is rinsed by hand in the sink, and each batch is soaked, then individual skeins are rinsed to make sure no colour bleeds. This isn’t foolproof though, and occasionally skeins in darker colours can bleed a little. In case it happens simply put your yarn or finished item in a pan (that you won’t use for food), add water and a generous glug or vinegar or citric acid, and then slowly bring up to heat. It should be simmering but not boiling. Then turn the heat off, put a lid on the pan, and leave it – ideally overnight. You should find that the water is now clear, and all that remains is to rinse your yarn. If the water isn’t quite clear, rinse it anyway – much like with hair dye, there can be excess dye which needs to run off.
